Rubrics help us evaluate learners and their performance in class. On Google Classroom, you can integrate rubrics, expanding the ways you can assess and evaluate your students performance. Posting rubrics allows you and your learners to have a common understanding of how work is graded.
Create a new Assignment by clicking the Create button on the Classwork page.
Fill in all the necessary details, especially the Points option if you will be using a scoring system. Once all of the relevant fields have been filled out, the + Rubric button will turn blue, which indicates that it can now be accessed.
Click the Create rubric button. This will open a popup window that will let you enter specific information about the rubric.
If you want to use a scoring system, make sure that the Use scoring button is clicked. If you don't do this, the rubric you will be creating will not generate scores based on the criteria and performance levels you indicated.
You can create criteria and their respective performance levels using the options below.
Make each criteria as specific as possible to create a more robust rubric. Doing this will allow you and your students to have a common understanding of what is expected from that specific criterion.
When defining points, it’s important to remember that these points will act as a percentage of the maximum score you set in the Assignment page. Depending on the performance level they receive, they will get a grade in terms of the points system indicated.
Create more criteria if necessary. Once you’re done, press the Save button on the upper-right.
That rubric will then be attached to that Assignment. Press the Assign button when you're done.
Once students have submitted their work, you can grade your student using the rubric that was created for that assignment. You can also reuse the rubric you created to other Assignments in the future.
You can reassign existing rubrics into other assignments. Here’s how you can do it:
Go to an assignment editor by pressing the Options button represented by three dots. This will open a popup.
On the right, there is a + Rubric button. Press that button, and then press Reuse rubric.
Click on the rubric you want to reuse and then press Select.
